Trades for Kids program offered by EDC and 4-H

February 28, 2022 1:30 a.m.

Submitted by the Economic Development Council.

Children in San Juan County are invited to learn about the skilled trades through free, fun projects hosted by the Economic Development Council (EDC) and WSU’s San Juan County Extension 4-H program. First, EDC is offering 25 motor kits to children residing in San Juan County. Children who pick up the kits (one kit per family) are invited to a problem-solving session on Wednesday, March 16 from 5 to 6 p.m., hosted by 4-H.

During the problem-solving session, the children will help each other, meet children from other islands and participate in a question-and-answer session with an apprentice electrician.

Motor kits are designed for ages 10 and up and are fun and informative (tested by EDC staff). Less experienced children would like to work with friends or older family members; more experienced children would like to modify the kit or help others.

For more information on kits, where to get them on your island, and how to sign up for the Q&A session, see: https://www.sanjuansedc.org/youth-trades/.

This series is made possible through the generosity of EDC’s Trades Training Initiative funders, specifically the Raynier Institute and Foundation, San Juan Island Community Foundation, Harvest Foundation, the Lopez Lions, Friday Harbor Kiwanis, San Juan County, Orcas Kiwanis and other donors. To support EDC’s trades programs, please visit www.sanjuansedc.org/donate. EDC thanks the Lopez Island Family Resource Center and the Orcas Island Library for their assistance with logistics.

The San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) works to support small rural businesses and run projects to spur the creation of new jobs, strengthen the economic base of working families, and support the overall quality of life. islanders.
