For the publisher:

The Hancock School Public Library would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the Portage Health Assistants! They gave us a grant of $ 3,500 to purchase outstanding STEM kits and we are very excited about this program.

STEM is a term to describe science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, grouped together for the purpose of study and exploration. It develops higher-level thinking skills, usually through hands-on applications, and generates children’s enthusiasm for science at all ages. Thanks to this grant, we will be able to buy 35 kits to distribute to families, students and patrons of the public. These kits will cover a wide range of ages and STEM interests, and will contain either materials to use, projects to complete, or experiments to conduct. From computer coding robot blocks to microscopes to magnets and electricity to solar power to general critical thinking and problem solving, our STEM kits will have something for everyone.

Funding for the Portage Health Auxiliary Grant comes entirely from proceeds from the Guilded Rose Gift Shop on the main campus of UP Health System – Portage. It’s a great gift shop, right in the lobby, and the money you spend there helps fund many programs for the youth and seniors in our area – sponsor them if you can!
