Spire and Evergy program to help customers improve their energy efficiency

To participate, customers sign up for a free, no-obligation home energy assessment. Energy analysts create a custom plan outlining recommended cost-effective energy upgrades such as a new air conditioner, furnace, water heater, duct sealing, or insulation upgrades.

Through this new program, customers reimburse the cost of the eligible upgrade* through a fixed monthly charge on their utility bills. For all-electric homes, the entire finance-eligible upgrade is done through Evergy, and if a home also uses natural gas, Spire will fund the cost of upgrades from natural gas savings. The PAYS finance charges will then be split and passed on to the Spire and Evergy invoices. Energy-efficient upgrades help customers use less energy and reduce annual utility costs, even paying off the upgrade each month.

“We are excited to provide another opportunity to help our customers save energy and money,” said Shaylyn Dean, Spire director of external affairs. “Energy efficiency programs like PAYS can help customers afford energy-saving strategies and equipment upgrades for their homes while lowering their utility bills. “With no credit checks, more customers can enjoy significant upgrades. A more energy-efficient home can mean not just savings, but a healthier, more comfortable place to live.”

“PAYS is designed to help our customers make home energy efficiency upgrades affordable and hassle-free,” said Brian File, director of demand management and energy efficiency at Evergy. “We have shown great interest in the program so far and believe that partnering with Spire will create additional energy efficiency resources and opportunities for customers using both electricity and gas.”

*Qualifying upgrade includes home improvements for which the estimated energy savings are greater than the financed invoice amount.
