The teams have analyzed COVID-19 data from several countries as well as data from Development Indicators around the world over the past few years. Based on the analytics and machine learning models deployed, a common theme that emerged across the teams was that COVID-19 will not be eradicated anytime soon, as new waves of the pandemic are expected across the world. . As a result, society should always follow COVID-19 standards and guidelines as advised by governments and health agencies. Also, as the vaccination process has just started, its impact will not be felt immediately.

Bitathon is an annual hackathon run jointly by GIM in association with SAS to challenge, engage and activate budding data scientists. â
Bhuvan Nijhawan, Senior Director of Training – Asia-Pacific, SAS Institute India Private Limited said: âBy providing the right skills, tools, data and environment for budding scientists, we can expect innovative solutions. , able to solve the problems we face. society. Teams participating in Bitathon predicted new waves of COVID-19, highlighting the key role that data analytics can play in managing the pandemic.
Dr R Rathish Bhatt, Big Data Analytics Program Chair, Goa Institute of Management, said, âThe volatile environment we find ourselves in is forcing companies to constantly reinvent themselves and revisit old models to solve various problems. complex. Analytics professionals would play an important role in rendering these critical predictive models that would help managers recalibrate their strategies. Avenues like ideas and hackathons help nurture the intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial spirit of students. - Team 3: The connected – Madadi Reethika Reddy and Sai Krishna Katla
The approach taken by the winning team – 2 States, to solve the problem using analytics was comprehensive, design-driven, and data-driven. Their goal was to predict the cure rate relative to the total cases recovered for different countries. Through extensive research, global development indicators that included variables such as population density, GDP, health expenditure, death rate and prevalence of undernourishment were selected. The model was developed with the aim of helping governments, citizens, the World Bank and WHO to determine aspects, including future country-level preparations, to address preparation for vaccine trials. , recovery rates, budget allocation for improving COVID-19 care facilities in affected areas and population density analysis to administer appropriate measures to maximize recovery rate.
This initiative is part of SAS ‘ongoing efforts to use Data for Good. The Data for Good movement promotes the use of data in meaningful ways to solve humanitarian issues related to poverty, health, human rights, education and the environment. From preventing deadly diseases to protecting endangered species to rebuilding after natural disasters, organizations around the world are using data to make a difference.

The hackathon was open to graduate and postgraduate students from across India who were passionate about data processing, data manipulation and analysis. He encourages young minds to approach difficult data problems and to solve them meticulously. Bitathon tested the intelligence and insight of data enthusiasts through different rounds involving different concepts on fitness, SAS basis, data science, statistics.
