Oak Bay Appoints New Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture
Ray Herman is stepping down from the role on May 25.
After four years as manager at Oak Bay, Steve Meikle makes the jump to manager later this month.
Meikle takes over as Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture when Ray Herman retires on May 25.
Meikle has served as recreation and culture manager since February 2018 and has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise, according to general manager Selina Williams.
“Seeing Mr. Meikle’s adaptability and problem solving while leading his team through the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated what an asset he is to the Oak Bay District. I am delighted to continue working with Mr. Meikle in his new capacity as Director,” she said in a statement.
Meikle has over 29 years of experience in the recreation field and has been an instructor in the School of Exercise, Physical Education and Health Sciences at the University of Victoria since 2001. Prior to working for district, he has held leadership positions at Saanich, including facilities manager. for Gordon Head Recreation Center and GR Pearkes Recreation Center as well as Manager of Community Services.
