The Good Shepherd Catholic College promotes critical thinking and problem solving in its latest extension program for 6th year students, “Time to Shine”. This is the first year that the College offers the program, which includes a range of extension activities for all 6th grade students in Mount Isa. The aim of the program is to expose students to a wide selection of hands-on activities to promote higher-order thinking. Some of the activities on offer include woodworking, orienteering, ‘math’ and cooking in Italian. Principal Kathleen McCarthy said the program was very popular and there were waiting lists for all activities. âThe College is delighted that its facilities are being used for the TIme to Shine program,â said Ms. McCarthy. “The students appreciate the teamwork and the practical challenges presented in each session”. The Time to Shine program continues into the next quarter.
