72% of organizations believe that quality engineering can contribute to the environmental aspect of sustainable IT
World Quality Report 2022–23:
72% of organizations think Qquality Engineering can contribute to the environmental aspect of sustainable computing
A new report also highlights 85% of organizations consider quality engineering1 at play a pivotal role in implementing emerging technologies into real-world use cases
Paris, October 32022 – 14e edition of the Global Quality Reportpublished today by Capgemini, Sogeti2, and Micro focus, reviews key trends and developments Qquality Engineering and Jbeing (EQ&T) and emphasizes sustainable computing and Vvalue Sstream Mmanagement3 as new centers of interest for quality teams. According to the report, tHere is too significant optimism about the future impact of emerging technologies such as blockchain, metaverse and other web 3.0 applications.
Sustainability was one of the new areas explored by this year’s edition of the report. The research found that while the role of quality within Sustainable IT is constantly changing, 72% of organizations believe that QE&T could contribute to the environmental aspect of Sustainable IT. Respondents are also optimistic about the benefits of green engineering as part of their sustainable IT strategies, with 47% citing improved brand value as the most important benefit, followed closely by improving customer loyalty (46%).
The report also reveals that organizations are increasingly turning to quality engineering and testing (QE&T) to support the deployment and success of new technologies such as blockchain and Web 3.0 and to address associated business challenges. in the areas of customer experience, time to market, security. , and cost. To ensure smooth experiences for end users, new technologies need to be tested in a different way than before, with a different approach and types of testing and quality validation.
Additionally, 96% of respondents believe they would face medium or high risk of cyberattacks without a quality strategy in place for emerging technologies. As the pace of technological change is exponential, the importance of adapting cybersecurity strategies to counter the risk of cyberattacks has also emerged in the research.
The quality assurance function is accelerating its transformation at quality engineering practices
As awareness increases on how the quality strategy can offset various risks associated with the deployment of new technologies, the quality assurance function is rapidly transforming from pure testing to actual quality engineering practices. For example, 88% of respondents agreed that they were at medium to high risk of losing market share to a competitor and 90% agreed that they were at risk of increased costs for deploying new technological solutions without QE&T strategy.
The focus on data continues to grow
There is unanimous agreement (89%) that strong data validation capabilities can improve decision-making, efficiency, and the bottom line. Test data management (TDM) is an integral part of the software testing lifecycle, however, only 20% of respondents have a fully implemented enterprise-wide test data provisioning strategy. Many organizations have serious challenges with implementing an effective data validation strategy; 42% consider implementing data validation a time-consuming exercise, while 47% of respondents said having multiple complex databases is in itself a challenge.
Greater integration between business teams is needed to realize the potential of AGilles4
Agile development and digital transformation are increasingly recognized as key enablers for additional IT investments: to support rapid DevOps transformation, it is recognized that integrating QE&T into every stage of product development is essential to drive take full advantage of the potential of this function.
The research found that organizations report significant improvements by adopting Agile development: 64% of respondents cited on-time delivery as the biggest improvement. Reducing the cost of quality was another key improvement (62%), followed closely by improving the customer experience (61%).
However, organizations continue to struggle to implement Agile development in packaged applications and enterprise systems due to the complex practicalities involved in breaking down enterprise resource planning (ERP) workflows and business practices. end-to-end in a single backlog.
Mark Buenen, Global Leader, Quality Engineering and Testing at Capgemini Group, commented, “The past few years have seen an unprecedented acceleration of digital platforms and an overall modernization of applications. At the same time, supply chain challenges, cybersecurity threats and continued skills shortages mean the business landscape has never been more complex. In turn, investment in robust quality assurance and engineering is the foundation of an organization’s ability to remain flexible, sensitive, and adaptable. Looking closer, we can see that this vital function can have a tangible impact on overall business performance, including profitability and even sustainability.”
“The Global Quality Report provides an excellent overview of the current state and future of computing, with an in-depth look at how emerging technologies are changing quality needs and practices organizations“, said Rohit de Souza, Senior Vice President, General Manager – ITOM Product Group and ADM Product Group, Head of CTO Office and Product Safety, Micro Focus. “This year results detail the fact that E-gradeengineering and tests is take into account This Cchange is continuous and the organizations must be flexible, adaptable and responsive to meet this challenge while reaching optimal business performance. At the same time, organizations are also focus to generate value for customers and end users.”
