Primrose Schools® presents a new junior robotics challenge to engage children in STEM-based learning
Recent to research shows that robotics and STEM learning can be leveraged to develop children’s social and emotional skills, including problem solving and collaboration. By integrating STEM concepts with the Balanced learning® approach, Primrose aims to inspire curiosity and spark interest in science, technology, engineering and math from an early age.
“These concepts may seem too complex for children, but they can be integrated in a fun and simple way,” said Dr. Maria Shaheen, Senior Director of Early Childhood Education at Primrose Schools. “STEM-based learning and problem-solving skills are important to a child’s development and early introduction is key to establishing a strong foundation for future learning and success.”
Each week of the Summer Adventure Club, children participate in fun activities that combine play and exploration to support literacy and new ways of thinking. The new “On your marks, get set, robotics!” will allow students to think creatively and solve problems, and during the second week of the two-week program, students will be invited to participate in a fun and friendly junior robotics challenge. The adventurers will work as a team to design and realize an original invention and will produce a video presenting their project to enter the contest. Entries will be judged against a predefined rubric that emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and social-emotional and robotic skills. The winners will be announced at the end of July.
The Primrose Schools Summer Adventure Club offers a fun full day experience for children from kindergarten to grade five. Learn more about Summer Adventure Club and find Primrose school locations here.
